Ackbar, a member of the Mon Calamari species who led the Rebel Alliance ships into the Battle of Endor, appears to be the early favorite. He has more than 14,000 Facebook fans. Websites like notatrap.org -- 'It's a trap!' was his famous line -- are promoting Ackbar's candidacy.

- Mars Spirit Rover may be stuck for good this time.
This poor little vehicle has had nothing bad luck since it got to Mars. Latest reports from NASA indicate that Spirit is currently stuck in a sand trap and has lost a wheel as well. Bummer.

- One scientist has managed to successfully trap a rainbow.
When they shone a multi-wavelength laser beam at the open end of the gilded waveguide, a trapped rainbow formed inside. This could be seen as a series of coloured rings when the lens was viewed from above with a microscope.
