Good news to those of you who spend all day on Facebook. You now have even more reason to hang out there thanks to the inclusion of video conference calling and group chats. Facebook bills this new feature as 'bringing conversations to life'. I think they would have better served had they gone with my way of marketing it as 'enhanced procrastination'.

Today, though, I was finally able to put Skype on the iPad to the test: I loaded it up, logged into my (for-pay) Skype Out account, and dialed 777-FILM. The next thing I heard? 'Hello, welcome to Moviefone!

The general thought has been that AT&T didn’t want always-available VoIP because it would eat into its core business as a telephone company. The well known 3G congestion on AT&T’s network has also been suspected. This has all been upturned, for voice communications at least.

Andreessen Horowitz, a new venture capital firm headed by the Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen, is likely to be among the investors in the group, the paper cited the people as saying.
