Eight websites you need to stop building according to The Oatmeal.Eight websites you need to stop building according to The Oatmeal.

After carefully perusing this comic (and laughing a little bit too loud for office-level volumes) I was a little discomforted by the fact that the Pork'd mock design looks ridiculously similar to the current version of GLM. I guess I was a little generic with this iteration, might be time for a redesign methinks.

Ten sites that every developer should have in their bookmarks file.Ten sites that every developer should have in their bookmarks file.

No matter what kind of development you do, at least three of these sites will be helpful to you in some kind of programming endeavor. I've just recently discovered the browser sandbox over at Spoon.net (though I'm a still little partial to IETester).

Stupid Fight can't go out and administer an intelligence test to each person that's sending messages to a celebrity. So instead, it estimates based on several stupid indicators. Are they using twenty exclamation marks in a row? Do they endlessly use the abbreviation 'OMG'?

Ars Technica explains why blocking ads is devastating to the websites you love to visit.Ars Technica explains why blocking ads is devastating to the websites you love to visit.

Imagine running a restaurant where 40% of the people who came and ate didn't pay. In a way, that's what ad blocking is doing to us. Just like a restaurant, we have to pay to staff, we have to pay for resources, and we have to pay when people consume those resources.

Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.

I've just downloaded this and it's not too shabby overall. If you're like me and pop over to Engadget at least once a day this should save you some time (or waste time depending on how you look at it). Lastly, I find the iPhone app to be a little easier on the eyes than their current website design (yech).

The White House website code is now open source. The White House website code is now open source.

Having the public write code may seem like a security risk, but it's just the opposite, experts inside and outside the government argued. Because programmers collaborate to find errors or opportunities to exploit Web code, the final product is therefore more secure.
