New Lego Mindstorm sets come with iOS and Android support right out of the box.New Lego Mindstorm sets come with iOS and Android support right out of the box.

Its updated Mindstorms EV3 runs on new Linux firmware that's ready for Android and iOS control out of the box, creates an overall more hackable platform and allows further programming on the core Intelligent Brick itself; accordingly, there's an SD card slot for local storage. A built-in infrared sensor expands the possibilities for a more autonomous design, as well -- Lego suggests that EV3 constructs can follow other moving gadgets, or even their creators, around the room.

An interesting read for those of you who want to have a little more insight as to just what Amazon does these days on the Interwebs besides selling everything under the sun. There's an interesting chart about half-way down he page that discusses how some important companies rely on Amazon's web services to power their products. If AWS shut off today, well - it's best not to think about it.

Nintendo shareholders would really like to see Mario on the iPhone, sooner than later.Nintendo shareholders would really like to see Mario on the iPhone, sooner than later.

It's an interesting time these days for video game consoles. That is of course, if you happen to be a company called Nintendo. Nintendo's latest handheld has been officially declared as a flop (even by Nintendo itself) and the price has been reduced not long after release.  The caliber of games you can find on the iPhone and iPad do rival what you can find on a Nintendo handheld - and at a much cheaper cost ($40 compared to often times $1-2).  It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

If you use a Twitter and you happen to follow of lot of name brand companies you'll be seeing what that particular company has to say front and center. Sponsored tweets from said companies will appear at the top of your timeline and can be easily dismissed with a click. This seems like a good idea in theory, if I'm following a given company on Twitter one would think that what they have to say would be relevant to my interests (in theory of course). In theory you could also follow me on Twitter (@subwarm), and no - there will not be sponsored messages from me or GLM (not intentionally anyway).

Twenty-six cool And unusual bed designs for your sleepy viewing pleasure.Twenty-six cool And unusual bed designs for your sleepy viewing pleasure.

My pillow-top bed is looking pretty boring compared to this list of non-boring beds by the folks over at coincidentally named BoringPanda.com. Sidenote: that may be one of the coolest domain names I've come across this year which is neither coincidental or boring. Mind blown.

And we're back... sort of.

Hey folks! It's been awhile hasn't it! Anyone still out there? Really? That's great! So how have you been this past year? That's great! Did you achieve all of the goals you had in mind from July 7th, 2010 until now July 6th, 2011? That's great! Did you get that promotion you were waiting for? That's great! Did you take that vacation you wanted to take that you really needed for sake of well being? That's great!  Did you learn a new skill that you've always wanted to take up but never had time? That's great! You know what's also great? Parfaits. They are deliciously great.

All greatness aside, yes I know it's been a while. I decided to dust off my lonely website and give it another go. Speaking of dust, I'm sure you'll find tons of lingering issues, all of which will be corrected shortly. In the meantime, would you like to drop a comment and say hello? That's great!

And even if you don't want to post a comment... you guessed it, that's great!

State of the GLM: Yes, I'm still here. No, I'm not dead.

You may have noticed that GLM has gone rather quiet for the past two-three months or so in terms of any and all content on the site. This post serves as a status update to alleviate any fears that GeekLikeMe is gone for good. Quite the contrary my dear friends. And yes, while I could run down the list of excuses as to why the site hasn't been updated, I'm sure they would just bore you to tears. To save us all some time I shall sum up in two words: work and parenthood.

For work I have been diving into the grand world of Objective-C programming for the past six months and I still haven't managed to come up for air. Hopefully when I'm actually able to take a deep breath I'll have an array of iPhone and iPad apps to show for it. Also on this note I'd like to state that I very well may have taken the most ass-backwards route in getting into a new programming language. Nevertheless, it's been a rewarding and infuriating process thus far but I'm learning a lot and I think it'll turn out well in the end.

I don't think I have to say much about parenthood other than sleep is a sought-after commodity and there are only so many hours in a day. This has turned out to be a major contributing factor to the current lack of posting. Shocker.

But now onto much better news: a new version of GeekLikeMe.net is in the works yet again and I've decided to make a design choice right off the bat. I recently took a trip down memory lane courtesy of archive.org's wayback machine. After feeling somewhat nostalgic about the old GLM design I decided that maybe it was time to return to the minimalist roots yet again. More details and information about the new site coming soon!

P.S. You can also follow me on Twitter even though I have yet to tweet anything. Oops, scratch that.

Rogue star mystery finally deciphered thanks to Hubble Space Telescope.Rogue star mystery finally deciphered thanks to Hubble Space Telescope.

The massive, hot star seemed out of place when astronomers first spotted it in 2006, and now thanks to Hubble, we know why. The misfit, 30 Dor #016, appears to have been ejected from a cluster of even heftier stars, pinging off of them and off into space at tremendous speed.

Eight websites you need to stop building according to The Oatmeal.Eight websites you need to stop building according to The Oatmeal.

After carefully perusing this comic (and laughing a little bit too loud for office-level volumes) I was a little discomforted by the fact that the Pork'd mock design looks ridiculously similar to the current version of GLM. I guess I was a little generic with this iteration, might be time for a redesign methinks.

To me, this revamp is actually a much welcomed step in the right direction as you can plainly see the 'realtime-ness' that didn't appear to be there with their previous version. Trending topics scroll across in realtime along with top tweets from select users. Not bad.

Blockbuster strikes deal with Warner Brothers to rent movies on release day.Blockbuster strikes deal with Warner Brothers to rent movies on release day.

Well, this is certainly a little strange. This deal is not currently available to Netflix and RedBox users - meaning you have to wait quite a bit before seeing new releases from Warner before you can rent them. But for Blockbuster members, you can rent their movie the day it's released on DVD. Okay then.
