Netflix pulls the curtain back on separate plan changes for both streaming and DVDs by mail.Netflix pulls the curtain back on separate plan changes for both streaming and DVDs by mail.

...we didn’t anticipate offering DVD only plans. Since then we have realized that there is still a very large continuing demand for DVDs both from our existing members as well as non-members. Given the long life we think DVDs by mail will have, treating DVDs as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan neither makes great financial sense nor satisfies people who just want DVDs.

Warner would really like you to upgrade your DVD collection over to Blu-ray.Warner would really like you to upgrade your DVD collection over to Blu-ray.

Do you have a whole bunch of Warner movies still festering on DVD? If those DVDs happen to be in their small list of seventy-five titles - you can upgrade them over to that fancy new Blu-ray format... for a small fee. What, did you think it was free? Silly human.

New study discovers that frequent password changes are basically useless.New study discovers that frequent password changes are basically useless.

someone who obtains your password will use it immediately, not sit on it for weeks until you have a chance to change it. 'That’s about as likely as a crook lifting a house key and then waiting until the lock is changed before sticking it in the door,' the Globe says.

Daily Grind: Sickly

Name: Vin (aka snifflegag)
How Vin feels today: Sickly @ 3:05:00 PM
What Vin really wants today: To go home, drink copious amounts of NyQuil, and then pass out.

Music Stuck in Head: None
The sound of my own coughs and sneezes is enough, thanks.

Stuff to do today:

  • Continue testing out additional small functional and cosmetic changes to GLM
  • What new changes you ask? Allow me to divulge...
  • Thumbnails have 3D-shadowy style instead of the clunky inset one from before
  • 'Popular today' functionality on the top of each day's worth of links
  • Design should be more 'IE6' friendly as well as more 'lower-resolution-buy-a-new-computer' friendly
  • Encourage readers to point out any bugs found by posting a comment to this entry
  • Another twenty bucks says no one leaves a comment
  • Stop making useless bets with self

Daily Grind: Slightly productive

Name: Vin (aka tweaker)
How Vin feels today: Slightly productive @ 1:17:00 PM
What Vin really wants today: Take care of some work projects, prep for this weekend's road trip extravaganza (Phish @ Hartford).

Music Stuck in Head: I Gotta Feeling / Black Eyed Peas
Make it stop. Make it stop. Make it stop. And yes, that annoying Miley Cyrus song from those goddamn Wal-Mart commercials takes second place. Stop that as well.

Stuff to do today:

  • Make small cosmetic changes to GLM
  • Add popular tags call on the right hand side (scroll down)
  • Post new photo to photoblog
  • Burn some CDs for tomorrow's CT road trip
  • Mostly because I don't feel like futzing with an iPod for two hours
  • Bring camera, snap off some photos of Phish lot scene in all it's wook splendor
  • Share said photos with GLM readers

The volunteers perceived the rectangles elongating just two seconds after their eye was covered — much quicker than expected. When the eye patch was removed, the distortions vanished just as fast as they had appeared.
