A gallery of some creative and unusual bookshelves for you to gawk at.A gallery of some creative and unusual bookshelves for you to gawk at.

Nothing inspires patriotism in me more than looking at a bookshelf shaped just like the United States. I'm guessing you probably can't fit a lot of books in Rhode Island or Delaware.

He guesses the company will miss shipment on about 2% to 4% of the devices, adding up to $100,000 to $200,000 worth of gift certificates. That’s store credits and not cash, so Barnes & Noble will no doubt recoup some of that investment.

The OS immediately put Windows Vista to shame, selling more copies on Amazon in its first eight hours than Vista did in its entire pre-order period. In the last three months, the only currently available products to beat Windows 7 were Dan Brown novels.

The refreshed iMacs may include a new touch-capable mouse to emulate functionality that iPhones can already do. My hunch is that it will be a USB touch pad. Pinching and swiping with an actual mouse doesn't quite work.

When asked whether reCAPTCHA was being used for Google's book digitization efforts, von Ahn responded 'Not until now.' Still, it's a natural fit, given that Google will happily consume both services provided by reCAPTCHA.

Amazon not a big fan of Google's book settlement plans.Amazon not a big fan of Google's book settlement plans.

More worrisome, in Amazon's view, is that the Registry will bring disparate publishers and rightsholders together under a single umbrella, essentially forming a pricing cartel.

Does Apple really have the greenest line of notebooks?Does Apple really have the greenest line of notebooks?

...NAD opined that Apple should modify its 'world's greenest family of notebooks' claim 'to make clearer that the basis of comparison is between all MacBooks to all notebooks made by a given competitor' and to 'avoid the reference to 'world's greenest' given the potential for overstatement.'
