- Panic takes a look at the magic behind the album art color schemes in iTunes 11.
If you've used iTunes 11 you may have noticed the adaptive colors used in some of your favorite albums. Apple could have just displayed a thumbnail and used the same colors for text everywhere but instead chose to theme each album to go along with it's individual art. This kind of little touch is really what has always se Apple apart from the rest. The good folks at Panic delve into the kind of programming and logic that may have gone into this kind of display paradigm. It's a great read even if you aren't a developer but its an even greater read if you because they include sample code.

- Google releases standalone maps application for iPhone.
The long awaited Google Maps application is finally here and it actually looks and functions very well. There have been numerous reports that this app beats out it's Android counterpart in terms of design and overall look and feel. All of the characteristics you expected from a proper maps application are here - turn by turn directions, vector maps, rotational maps and general location information. Some amazing work here from Google.

- Photoblog: Tomato Fibers
Playing with my new FujiFilm F550 EXR. Loving it so far, it's nice to be able to capture a shot like this using a mid-range point and shoot. Bonus: used the camera's EXR mode for this which automatically detected that I was attempting a macro shot and adjusted internal settings accordingly. Take that, manual settings!Location:

- Sponsored tweets from companies you follow will be appearing more often in your Twitter timeline.
If you use a Twitter and you happen to follow of lot of name brand companies you'll be seeing what that particular company has to say front and center. Sponsored tweets from said companies will appear at the top of your timeline and can be easily dismissed with a click. This seems like a good idea in theory, if I'm following a given company on Twitter one would think that what they have to say would be relevant to my interests (in theory of course). In theory you could also follow me on Twitter (@subwarm), and no - there will not be sponsored messages from me or GLM (not intentionally anyway).

- International teaser poster for Muppets movie reboot shows up online.
Word has it that the original title for this movie was to be called 'The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever' but the studios decided to shorten it to just 'The Muppets'. I like the previous title better. Here's to hoping this flick is more enjoyable than the Muppets Christmas Carol. Yech.

- A showcase of blogs with unique post designs for your viewing pleasure.
It seems like these days everyone is using the same old blog template or the same tired Wordpress theme (although I've seen some pretty amazing Tumblr themes). Regardless, I'm a sucker for blogs that don't actually look like your average blog and stray from the formula. The end result is what some are calling a 'blogazine'. Enjoy.

- A handy Photoshop tutorial regarding how to create your very own realistic paper textures.
Not sure just what version of Photoshop you'll need to pull this off but you can probably find multiple methods in earlier versions should you be so inclinded to do so. Quick note, the best use of digital paper design on a blog goes to Panic.

- Photoblog: Sunrise Over Ontario
Slightly grainy shot captured recently whilst engaged in a weekend quick trip over the border. Should also be noted that this photo was taken with my trusty and newly updated iPhone 3GS which takes pretty good photos now that they've added that handy autofocus feature.Location:

- The age-old art of blogging may have peaked thanks to introduction of Twitter.
Blogs are meant for people for whom being a writer, being a creator, is a passion, or perhaps a requirement of life. They're meant for people for whom Facebook's 'What's on your mind?' question can't always be answered in 500 characters or less.

- Dell would like you to know they made $6.5 million in sales via Twitter.
Dell now considers Twitter to be a 'significant new channel' in which to reach customers. If Twitter landed me a couple million in sales I'm guessing that I'd think it would be pretty significant as well.

- Smashing Magazine would like you to know that classic blog posts are boring.
A lof of valid points in this writeup along with some great examples of web designers who are pushing the envelope in this area. I'm loving the deviation from their normal layout just to push the article's main concept.

- A list of the fifty most influential bloggers of 2009 thus far.
I guess I should be reading more blogs because I've never heard of some of these names until reading this list just now. That's ok though, I'm willing to bet none of them have heard of me either - so it's a wash.

- Photoblog: Plumbing Exploits
Posted in honor of my recent mishaps in the world of plumbing. This little shot was taken at the kid's museum over in Norwalk (Stepping Stones) which is in fact, fun for the whole family.Location:
