Push Pop Press is the latest acquisition in Facebook's growing design talent roster.Push Pop Press is the latest acquisition in Facebook's growing design talent roster.

Mike Matas, one of the co-founders of Push Pop Press, is one of the designers behind some of the most familiar iPhone and iPad user interfaces that you've come to know and love. This kind of talent acquisition doesn't come along simply to tweak the look of an iPhone app. They must be working on something big. On a sadder note, Push Pop Press has announced that they have abandoned their planned publishing platform. However, their one offering is still available in the App Store - search for Al Gore's 'Our World'.

Have a peek at the future look of the Firefox user interface straight from Mozilla.Have a peek at the future look of the Firefox user interface straight from Mozilla.

There are some design concepts you may easily recognize if you happen to already be a Google Chrome user. Also, there seems to be a couple dashes of Safari thrown in there as well for good measure (although anytime you add the Mac traffic lights on a mockup I come to that conclusion). For those interested the developer tools have a brand new look as well, could be quite useful.

New York City according to various scenes from American Psycho.New York City according to various scenes from American Psycho.

Scouting New York has an awesome article entitled 'Patrick Bateman’s New York: What Happened To The World of American Psycho' in which they investigate the many top NYC spots mentioned in the movie. You'll get a look at some of the locations used in the movie and what they've become today as well as expected difficulty in getting reservations at each place. And no, you will never get a reservation at Dorsia (spoiler alert, it doesn't exist).

New report reveals that Google uses roughly 900,000 servers.New report reveals that Google uses roughly 900,000 servers.

The good news is that at least those 900,000 servers are the low-power high-efficiency breed of servers that one would expect a company as big as Google to be using. The source article has some other interesting tidbits regarding software that will automate data across multiple data center as well as Google's server expansion plans. Long story short, the number will probably go over a million in the near future.

Vimeo now available on your Apple TV thanks to latest software update.Vimeo now available on your Apple TV thanks to latest software update.

Vimeo has some great HD content, it's nice to see this appear on the little black TV box from Apple. Besides the welcomed support of Vimeo to this little device, you can also stream your purchased television shows directly from the cloud. This will work for your previously purchased television shows as well which is nice.

Apple has more cash on hand than the United States government.Apple has more cash on hand than the United States government.

Apple's last earnings report (PDF here) showed that the company had $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June. In other words, the world's largest tech company has more cash than the world's largest sovereign government. That's because Apple collects more money than it spends, while the U.S. government does not.

Some self-help advice for those of you looking to improve upon your self-improvement needs. Some self-help advice for those of you looking to improve upon your self-improvement needs.

I've been reading a lot of Coding Horror lately. This particular post resonated with me a lot more than I initially thought it would. It might be because there is a lot of noise these days (read Internet noise: twitter, facebook, work emails, etc) to distract me from a given task at hand (either that or my perpetual procrastination). If you happen to be in need of some motivational advice this will prove to be a good read.

Photoblog: Tomato Fibers
Tomato Fibers

Playing with my new FujiFilm F550 EXR. Loving it so far, it's nice to be able to capture a shot like this using a mid-range point and shoot. Bonus: used the camera's EXR mode for this which automatically detected that I was attempting a macro shot and adjusted internal settings accordingly. Take that, manual settings!

Moore also cites the dramatic increase in content as a major reason for the expanded viewership. Forty-eight hours of footage are uploaded to YouTube every minute, adding up to nearly 8 years of content daily. And YouTube isn’t just for the young crowd. Even though YouTube lists its demographic as 18-54 years old, Pew found that nearly one-third of online Americans age 65 and older uses video sharing sites. Parents are also 20 percentage points more likely to have used a video sharing site than non-parents.

McDonald's takes a stab at making Happy Meals a healthier option.McDonald's takes a stab at making Happy Meals a healthier option.

And just how will McDonald's pull off this healthy task you ask? By shrinking the size of the french fries portion that comes with the meal, of course. And believe it or not, the fast food chain even toyed with removing french fries all together from Happy Meals. According to the LA Times, families in this test group rebelled (non-violently) against this idea. Take that, healthly diet!

Over in China beach-goers are enjoying a healthy swim in algae-filled waters.Over in China beach-goers are enjoying a healthy swim in algae-filled waters.

An algae bloom, or 'green tide,' has clogged nearly 7,700 square miles (20,000 square kilometers) of the Yellow Sea, Chinese authorities said Sunday, according to the state-run media outlet Xinhua. The algae blanketing the beaches belongs to a species of marine plankton known as Enteromorpha prolifera, found in waters all around the world. In the right conditions, the algae can explode into so-called macro-algal blooms, Steve Morton, a marine biologist at the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), told National Geographic News in 2010.

Old Spice commercial guys to do battle via Internet popularity contest.Old Spice commercial guys to do battle via Internet popularity contest.

Dear Old Spice, there is no need for a contest here. Isaiah Mustafa should be your permanent spokesman. If you want more information other than the previous two sentences know that Mustafa's opponent happens to be none other than Fabio. You can watch some of the back and forth videos between Mustafa and Fabio over on Mashable. It's all in the delivery. Night vision top hat!

Netflix may get a small dose of animated movies via new streaming deal with DreamWorks Animation.Netflix may get a small dose of animated movies via new streaming deal with DreamWorks Animation.

According to Bloomberg News, the deal would kick in after the pay TV agreement with HBO expires, but a source tells THR that HBO has offered to end DWA's output deal two years early because HBO recently signed a pact with Summit Entertainment that gives the pay cabler 10-12 live action films a year versus the two animated films a year that DWA offers. Plus, animated fare is more common now that HBO content partners Warner Bros., Fox and Universal are all producing those films.

Apple Store definitely coming to Grand Central Station at some point in the near future.Apple Store definitely coming to Grand Central Station at some point in the near future.

According to The Real Deal, Apple will be shelling out $800,000 per year in rent, which seems a little high given that the previous tenant was paying about half that. As for me, I am both happy and sad for this news all at once. Happy because I will be frequenting this location quite often and sad because of the overall effect it will have on my bank account. The crowding of my overall commute to NYC will most likely be more annoying but I'll learn to live with it.

A step by step tutorial regarding how to build your very own 8-bit centerpieces.A step by step tutorial regarding how to build your very own 8-bit centerpieces.

I have decided that I am going to make like twenty of these things and strategically place them all over my property.  Recent studies have shown that Piranha Plants, in addition to making any backyard or home garden more attractive, also make for thicker grass. Recent studies have also shown an alarming increase in the number of fabricated studies.
