Twitter glitch that allowed anyone to follow anybody quickly resolved. Phew.
For a brief couple of moments yesterday it was possible to have anyone follow you on the micro-blogging service. That wondrous feeling was countered by Twitter setting all accounts to zero followers - to which a collective gasp across the Interwebs could be heard miles around.

Want to know what the world searched for in 2012? There's a Google Zeitgeist for that.
They even prepared a little video with inspirational music to go along with it. How very Google of them.

Yahoo pulls the curtain back on a brand new version of their mail client.
Definetly looking forward to giving this a whirl as I'm starting to grow weary of the GMail interface these days. Microsoft Outlook, which I use for work, is moderately simple yet has power features for people (such as myself) who are little overboard in terms of organization. I'd also like to point that GMail's labels versus folders paradigm does absolutely nothing for me. GMail looks like a stream of people shouting at me.

Turns out that coin tosses don't really provide fifty-fifty odds.
As usual, it's humanity that messes things up. When flipped by a machine, coins come up heads a solid fifty percent of the time, and tails the other fifty percent. Put the fate of the coin in grubby human hands and the odds tip slightly in favor of the side that faces up just before the coin is flipped. The side that was face up at the beginning of the flip has a fifty-one percent chance of landing face-up at the end. Humans are not as precise as machines, and so the coin rotates around several axes instead of one.

Sponsored tweets from companies you follow will be appearing more often in your Twitter timeline.
If you use a Twitter and you happen to follow of lot of name brand companies you'll be seeing what that particular company has to say front and center. Sponsored tweets from said companies will appear at the top of your timeline and can be easily dismissed with a click. This seems like a good idea in theory, if I'm following a given company on Twitter one would think that what they have to say would be relevant to my interests (in theory of course). In theory you could also follow me on Twitter (@subwarm), and no - there will not be sponsored messages from me or GLM (not intentionally anyway).

Research finds that for every minute there are 48 hours of video footage uploaded to YouTube.
Moore also cites the dramatic increase in content as a major reason for the expanded viewership. Forty-eight hours of footage are uploaded to YouTube every minute, adding up to nearly 8 years of content daily. And YouTube isn’t just for the young crowd. Even though YouTube lists its demographic as 18-54 years old, Pew found that nearly one-third of online Americans age 65 and older uses video sharing sites. Parents are also 20 percentage points more likely to have used a video sharing site than non-parents.

Old Spice commercial guys to do battle via Internet popularity contest.
Dear Old Spice, there is no need for a contest here. Isaiah Mustafa should be your permanent spokesman. If you want more information other than the previous two sentences know that Mustafa's opponent happens to be none other than Fabio. You can watch some of the back and forth videos between Mustafa and Fabio over on Mashable. It's all in the delivery. Night vision top hat!

An awkward meeting between Twitter founder Biz Stone and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.
The Next Web posts an interesting article regarding a meeting between the two heads of the socially charged companies that happened some time around November 2008. It is rumored that this is about the time that Facebook was thinking of acquiring Twitter for sum of about $500 million. I smell a Social Network sequel or at the very least an Odd Couple-esque sitcom.

- App of the Week: Instantbird
Lately I've noticed that I've somehow found myself on a great deal of sites that have their own form of instant messaging clients. Facebook has one, Google has one, and then there's that ancient AIM account that I can never seem to let go of. The problem is that...
