Borders joins the e-reader party, taking pre-orders for Kobu device.Let's see - so now we have a Kindle, a Nook, an iPad, and a Kobu. I'll admit that I see many a Kindle on the morning commute into Manhattan and I've spotted the Nook on the subway just once in my travels. I'll also admit that the name Kobu sounds like something you'd eat for dinner.

Engadget goes eyes-on with Samsung's new 85 inch television set.The company calls the stand a 'timeless gallery' frame, and indeed the set would fit right in with some of the more conceptual pieces at the MoMA. Still, that easel-like design could be a bit limiting for some living rooms, so you can remove the S9 and wall-mount it -- though the 2.2 channel audio is built into that frame. Unique design aside, this TV is all about the high-end specs.

New Lego Mindstorm sets come with iOS and Android support right out of the box.Its updated Mindstorms EV3 runs on new Linux firmware that's ready for Android and iOS control out of the box, creates an overall more hackable platform and allows further programming on the core Intelligent Brick itself; accordingly, there's an SD card slot for local storage. A built-in infrared sensor expands the possibilities for a more autonomous design, as well -- Lego suggests that EV3 constructs can follow other moving gadgets, or even their creators, around the room.

Apple would like you to know that they've had over 40 billion downloads from their app store. That's a lot of downloads. Apparently half of that number was just in 2012 alone.

Twenty-one unfilmable books that managed to make it to the big screen.Even Rotten Tomatoes agrees that some of the books that made it onto this list should have never been considered for major motion picture filming in the first place. Yep, looking in your direction Cat in the Hat.

Apple selects the Best of 2012 awards from notable iTunes Store apps and games. For the first time in two years, no photography apps made it in to the top listings. 2012 also marks the first year that an Entertainment app was given an editor’s choice award. As always, during the end of the year wrap up Apple highlights games and apps from a wide variety of categories, so it’s well worth skimming the list for hidden gems.

Apple's new store at Grand Central Station may be opening in the very near future.9to5Mac has heard that Apple will officially announce the opening of the Grand Central Apple store this Tuesday and presumably pull the black boards to reveal the announcement. This store garners extra special attention because it will be Apple’s largest in the world by square footage and resides in a building where 750,000 people pass daily and over 1,000,000 people during the holidays.

Engadget's thorough review of the brand new Kindle Fire tablet from Amazon.Engadget covers everything here from the packaging to the performance of Amazon's first real entry into the tablet field. Engadget hails the device as quite an achievement at it's current price point ($200) but they do knock the device some by saying that it can't compete with 'normal' tablets that are currently on the market in some key factors.

You won't be seeing Siri on older iDevices anytime in the near future. That's a shame but it makes sense given Apple's strategy and history of making certain features exclusive to particular iPhone models. Not clear on why devices other than iPhones have to miss out on this. The iPad 2 should have enough horsepower to run Siri without an issue (same for their notebook line as well).

MTA releases renderings of the new Apple Store coming to Grand Central Station. The title of this article is a little misleading as there is really only one rendering to look at over on The Real Deal's website. AppleInsider has some of the other renderings, albiet in a less vibrant (and boring) form. Aside from the new Apple Store, Grand Central will also be home to a brand new Shake Shack.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy app coming soon to an iPad near you.Canadian indie developer Hothead Games is producing a Hitchhikers Guide app, aiming to replicate the titular guide itself (rather than the novels). When it arrives this fall, we can expect beautifully animated sequences describing the Babel Fish and Vogon Poetry -- but just a single word about planet Earth (the addition of the word 'Mostly' should come in a second, more sinister update).
