- Daily Grind: Nerdy
Name: Vin (aka levelup+1)
How Vin feels today: Nerdy @ 2:55:41 PM
What Vin really wants today: Finish up remaining work tasks and attempt to get some time in playing a certain RPG video game that sounds vaguely similar to 'Shminal Shmantasy' at some point this evening. Insert traditional battle victory theme here.Music Stuck in Head: Call it Love / God Street Wine
Continuing the celebration of the recently announced GSW reunion. You can have a listen to this rare jazzy track over on archive.org.Stuff to do today:
- Purchase Final Fantasy XIII from semi-local NYC area Best Buy
- Semi-local = four subway stops from work location (meh)
- Ignore reviews complaining about PS3 versus Xbox 360 quality
- Finally post new photo to photoblog

Ten awesome Super Nintendo RPG games you should probably play at least once in your life.
I'm not sure if I should be proud or just plain sad to say that I've only completed five of the ten games on this list. Oh whatever, I'm proud - those were good times. For those of you who would like to relive the Super Nintendo glory days check out the OpenEmu project. It's a fantastic iTunes-like emulator for Mac that is currently under development (thanks Ant).

Watch the official Phish 2012-2013 New Year's Countdown and the golfing hijinks that followed.
For those who don't know: Phish does an elaborate New Year's Eve gag every year. This year's prank featured numerous ping pong balls, dance squads, and runaway golf cart marathons.

Apple selects the Best of 2012 awards from notable iTunes Store apps and games.
For the first time in two years, no photography apps made it in to the top listings. 2012 also marks the first year that an Entertainment app was given an editor’s choice award. As always, during the end of the year wrap up Apple highlights games and apps from a wide variety of categories, so it’s well worth skimming the list for hidden gems.

Snag an enjoyable Mario Kart clone on the Xbox 360 for just $15.
I played the demo of this a while back and really enjoyed it. To me it was mario kart with real cars. I never did buy the full version though. Seeing at $15 has peaked my interest again.

Apple pulls the curtain back on iTunes 10.5.1 with iTunes Match.
Unlike competing cloud storage music services from Amazon and Google, iTunes Match saves a lot of bandwidth and time in your initial synchronization, because Apple can identify which songs in your iTunes library are already available in the iTunes Store. If Apple can positively match a song in your library with any of the 20 million tracks for sale in the iTunes Store, it won’t bother uploading that song; only unmatched songs get uploaded to the cloud.

Best Buy has the current generation Apple TV for $89 with free shipping.
Posting this here because I've grown to love this product in the few short weeks I've had it. It's a great implementation for getting your Internet media as close to your television as you would need it. My kids love watching clips on YouTube and Vimeo so having that readily available in the living room is a big plus. Also, having the entire media contents of your Mac is just great as well. Bonus: using the Apple Remote app for any of the iDevices may make you want to chuck the included remote.

Guitar Hero franchise not quite dead yet, gets upgraded to mostly dead.
It turns out there is still money to be made from selling plastic guitars and other assorted musical peripherals for console gaming. Activision Blizzard has stated that the franchise will indeed be making a return and that the experience will be reinvented, rebooted, retooled, whatever you want to call it. Hey Activision, please make sure that whatever you release at least works with my existing dusty plastic peripherals. Thanks.

- State of the GLM: Yes, I'm still here. No, I'm not dead.
You may have noticed that GLM has gone rather quiet for the past two-three months or so in terms of any and all content on the site. This post serves as a status update to alleviate any fears that GeekLikeMe is gone for good. Quite the contrary my dear...

Square Enix did quite well this year with their multi-million selling titles.
One of those titles happened to be Final Fantasy XIII, a game that literally makes you literally click one button for ten plus hours and nothing else. On the flip side, if you manage to stick it out past the twenty hour mark the game begins to get somewhat enjoyable.
