Ten of the most alien-like insects currently residing on this planet.Go ahead and enjoy this gallery of alien-like insect photography. For the squemish, it's probably better to view this link post-breakfast. I find assigning each insect a ridiculous cartoon voice makes the whole thing more enjoyable.

New study suggests that Earth may have originally had two moons.A tiny second moon may once have orbited Earth before catastrophically slamming into the other one, a titanic clash that could explain why the two sides of the surviving lunar satellite are so different from each other, a new study suggests. The second moon around Earth would have been about 750 miles (1,200 kilometers) wide and could have formed from the same collision between the planet and a Mars-sized object that scientists suspect helped create the moon we see in the sky today, astronomers said.

Installing spy camera software on laptops at the Apple Store may not be the smartest idea.So the story kinda goes like this, an artist wanted to capture various people as they stared blankly into computers, you know for purposes of art (better explanation via source link). The computers happened to be the public ones at a New York City Apple retail store. No big deal, right? The Secret Service apparently felt differently and issued a search warrant for computer fraud. Whoops.

Some amazing photos of that pesky volcanic ash for you to gawk at.If you happened to be doing some overseas traveling over the past few days you might have noticed a delay or two (possibly more numerous than that). While this would've made for a really good excuse to justify the lack of recent GLM postings, sadly (or happily - depending how you look at it) it wasn't the case. More on that later.

Choose two celebrity Twitterers and see whose fans are dumber with one handy site.Stupid Fight can't go out and administer an intelligence test to each person that's sending messages to a celebrity. So instead, it estimates based on several stupid indicators. Are they using twenty exclamation marks in a row? Do they endlessly use the abbreviation 'OMG'?

Starbucks giving away free coffee on April 15th, bring your own mug.The free coffee giveaway is an effort to raise awareness that we should all be ditching paper cups in favor of switching to a more reusable environmentally-friendly coffee container. This container would probably be a cylinder mug-like type of object - most likely a mug. More info (and a short flick) over here.

Large hadron collider smashes protons successfully after some minor power issues. This is thought to have a profound role in the structure of the Universe, and would enable scientists to explain why matter has mass - something which, at a fundamental level, they have difficulty doing at present.

Large Hadron Collider to officially shut down for one year due to safety concerns.Dr Myers said: 'It's something that, with a lot more resources and with a lot more manpower and quality control, possibly could have been avoided but I have difficulty in thinking that this is something that was a design error.'

Putting landmines in your garden probably not the smartest security measure.Landmines? Seriously? Why not just build a bigger fence? It also begs the question as to what was in this garden that needed the additional explosive power of landmines as security. Maybe he figured out how to harvest a money tree.
