...development DTN has advanced quickly over the past year, and NASA missions are planning to adopt the network by 2011. In November 2008 NASA test-drove the network by sending space images to and from the EPOXI spacecraft, some 20 million miles (32 million kilometers) from Earth.

Scientists are not 100% positive yet about this finding. After all, an extraordinarily bright object in a galaxy 290 million light-years away could be well... anything.

Evidence that Enceladus could hold a subsurface ocean would be exciting because liquid water elsewhere in our solar system is the most promising place to look for signs of life.

Saturn has a couple of spooky shadows.Saturn has a couple of spooky shadows.

The shadows are stretched to bizarre lengths, just as earthly shadows are elongated right before sunset. And because the moons are in motion, the mini-eclipses slide across the rings like dark ghosts.

LCROSS is not the first mission to crash into the moon. Last week, Japan's Kaguya lunar orbiter was intentionally commanded to slam into the lunar surface at the end of a successful observation mission.
