YouTube now has captioning for millions of videos thanks to new technology.YouTube now has captioning for millions of videos thanks to new technology.

So how did they do it? Each video now uses speech recognition technology to pick up potential spoken words from the audio track. It not may be a perfect solution but it's a great start. The technology only works on videos that contain English audio at present time.

Facebook's recently awarded news-feed patent could spell trouble for other social sites.Facebook's recently awarded news-feed patent could spell trouble for other social sites.

Twitter is effectively one giant news feed, to the extent that it clearly has influenced some of the changes that Facebook made to its own feed technology. That reaction could be alarmist. And yet prominent figures elsewhere in the social-media world don't seem thrilled.

Ten year search deal between Microsoft and Yahoo finalized and approved by regulators.Ten year search deal between Microsoft and Yahoo finalized and approved by regulators.

Microsoft is hoping to give Google some viable competition with this new deal. Also, Yahoo's search will soon be powered by Microsoft perhaps spawning an even sillier name for a search engine like Bahoo or YaBing. One last point, both names are actually sounds (try it, YAHOO... BING!).

New website exposes the dangers of improper social network usage.New website exposes the dangers of improper social network usage.

In a nutshell, a third party service posts your location status via Twitter. Someone managed to aggregate that content into one easy website for the entire world to see.  A happy day for burglars round the world.

Want to know just how speedy YouTube is in your area?Want to know just how speedy YouTube is in your area?

An interesting little page that I didn't know existed on YouTube's website. I'm quite surprised to see my ISP performing as well it does compared to the rest of the state of New York (or in some cases the rest of the country).

Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.

I've just downloaded this and it's not too shabby overall. If you're like me and pop over to Engadget at least once a day this should save you some time (or waste time depending on how you look at it). Lastly, I find the iPhone app to be a little easier on the eyes than their current website design (yech).
